Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a session?
Booking is easy, simply fill out the contact form on our contact page and Justine will be in touch to discuss your session and confirm your date.
What should I wear?
I recommend bringing 2–4 outfits for headshots to choose from. Clean lines and strong colours photograph best. Dancers can wear performance costumes or borrow from my collection (limited in scope and size).
Where are sessions held?
Sessions take place at my home studio in Canberra.
I don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera, will this work for me?
I make it my mission to ensure sessions are as fun and relaxed as possible. I will guide you every step of the way so you are supported and look your best!
How long until I see my photos?
Time permitting, we choose your favourites together at the end of the session. Your online gallery will be delivered between 7-14 days after your session. Images for the headshot Signature Collection will be delivered within 1-3 days. Wall art and print orders are delivered within 2–3 weeks after that.
What should I bring to the session?
Dancers bring your dance wear and costumes, hair accessories, any props you love, and plenty of energy! For headshots, bring your outfit and jewellery choices, plus makeup if applicable. A light snack and water is always a good idea too.
Will there be hidden costs?
No. All costs are outlined upfront in the planning stage.
Does my dance technique have to be perfect?
No. I will ensure you are photographed at your best angles and in flattering poses that showcase your technique.
Can siblings or friends join the dance session?
Absolutely! I love capturing siblings or dance friends together. Just let me know when booking so I can allow enough time. An extra person fee applies.
What dance styles do you photograph?
I have photographed ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip-hop and musical theatre. Given my understanding of movement, I can photograph any dance style. Just let me know what you’d like to cover in your session and we’ll go from there!
Will the experience be a good one for my dancer?
Yes! I ensure your dancer is as comfortable as possible during the session. This is about making special memories as much as portraits. I have many repeat customers who come back because they enjoyed the experience so much!
Is there a minimum age requirement for dance sessions?
Dancers need to be 10+ years for a portrait session. To participate in my creative projects, dancers must be 16+ years of age.
Can parents stay in the studio while the dance session is underway?
Yes! Parents of children 16 and under are encouraged to stay to watch and help with any costume, hair and makeup needs. Parents are not permitted to take photos or video of the session.
